Christmas around the corner and the rain keeps coming



The rain keeps falling here on the farm and last night we had another 25mm (1 inch). The ground is so wet already that it is just running straight off the ground; however life goes on and over the past 5 days we have had two new calves both little girls born to proud Mum's Nova and Lucy.

The rain also keeps the pigs happy here is Fauna enjoying one of her many wallows, oh to be as happy as pig in mud, it is also doing wonders for our newly planted Zucchinis (Courgette) which have now started to produce a great crop of lovely fresh vegetables (watch out for our latest recipe blogs).

Rain does slow somethings down though as I am currently waiting for a break in the weather so that I can start cutting, raking and baling one of our lovely grassy hay fields, oh well they do say you can never keep a farmer happy.

Designer Living in the Country....

Poor Allyson has had to wait some time for this blind to be finished.
I got a little carried away making reindeer!

But as you can see it was worth the wait.  The fabric is designed and printed in Australia by Thea and Sami.  The picture does not do the colour justice.

I have another one to make for a bedroom in sage green.  Will have a short break over Christmas then back at my machine!!

Rainy Weather Brings Elephants!!!!

This glorious rain has enabled me to get these elephants finished so they can be delivered before Christmas!
All my girls have fallen in love with them and will be sad to see them leave.

Mobah and Booboo have been lovingly created over the last 3 days.  There seems to be a lot of mother/daughter action here at the farm lately!!!
We had a little heifer born from our most beautiful cow Nova.

Here is 'Piano Man'.  This cute dog designed by Hopskipjump has already left to start a new life in LA.  I wonder if he will arrive before Christmas?

Tis The Season To Be Thankful

No - it's not a blog double up..... Holly is a proud mother to this little chap born yesterday.  He is very white and has very cute ears!!!  We do not name any of the boys that will become steers. 

 

It is really lovely to have a few calves born around the same time.  You can sit and watch them frolick and play tag with each other.  The mothers get plenty of free time as other members of the herd, including the steers, have turns at watching the nursery. 

What Should We Call Her?

Well - this little lady arrived very late yesterday afternoon.  She was probably less than 30 minutes old when we found her and her Mum, Sophie, doing well.

 

We were very worried about her last night after having heavy rainfall for most of the evening.

But, luckily, she was unaffected and this morning found happily feeding in the rain.

We invite you to help us find a great name for her.  Please write any suggestions in the comments.

Three Little Birds Signing This Sweet Song

The next morning we awoke to find all three little wagtails perched happily in the Wattle tree.

Three In The Bed & The Little One Said

There are many birds nesting in the front garden at 'Livewell'.  We counted 7 occupied nests in the massive conifier alone last week.  The family was priviledged that our resident Wagtails had decided to nest in a low branch of our Poinciana tree.  The 3 tiny eggs were easily visable for our 9 year old to keep an eye on who would check on them and report their progress every morning.  There was much excitement when the little ones hatched, their bodies wet and weak.  Just a day latter they were gorgeous and fluffy and their constant cheeping for their parents was overwhelming whilst I sat in my sewing room 10 metres away.  In such a short time the three chicks are getting too big and barely fit into their cosy little home.  Today they made their madien journey and Brian was quite anxious late this afternoon when only two babies had returned.  I do hope that all three are there in the morning.

Welcome Shower Brings A Little Treat

This wonderful showery weather not only brings welcome rain but also a surprise treat for one of our Large Black gilts.  As the rain falls on the Mulberry Tree the branches droop under that extra weight and bring those tasty leaves just into reach -
